Last night, the Pure Spa management team, along with some helpers (Eva age 13 and Phoebe age 6), had the honor of being Guest Chefs at The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House near St. Christopher’s Hospital.
Pure Spa’s Front Desk Manager Casey had the idea and galvanized the group to make this experience happen. The team volunteered their time and culinary talents to prepare dinner for families that are currently in residence at the Ronald McDonald House, serving up a Mexican-themed feast for about 50 people. On the menu: green salad, seasoned chicken fajitas, Mexican rice, black beans and vegetables. The meal was completed with a yummy dessert of homemade brownies and ice cream.
Spa owner Mimi was the head chef of the kitchen, making sure we had enough food and enough time to get everything prepared to perfection! She was in her element – Queen of the Kitchen. And it paid off! The families loved everything, with many coming back for seconds. We made some amazing new friends, and a wonderful night was had by all.
Opened in 2008, The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House at Front & Erie offers a home-like environment for 20 families a night. The House gives families the opportunity to relate to other families receiving treatment for their children.
Pure Spa donated dinner. You can donate to support a family’s stay. 90% of the Ronald McDonald House funding comes from individuals and corporate donors. While it costs the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House over $100 a night per family to provide housing and supportive services, families are only asked to contribute $15 per night. No one is ever turned away due to inability to pay.
